Chemical resistance

iglidur® bearings can come into contact with numerous chemicals during their operation. This contact can lead to alterations in the useful properties. The behavior of plastics to a certain chemical is dependent on the temperature, the acting period as well as the type and extent of the mechanical stressing capacities. If iglidur® bearings are resistant to a chemical, they can be used in this medium. To a partial extent the ambient medium can even take over lubrication tasks.
With the most resistant iglidur® material, the iglidur® X, it can even be hydrochloric acid. All iglidur® bearings can be used in strongly diluted acids and alkalis. Variations occur particularly with higher concentrations or higher temperatures.
Likewise, all iglidur® bearings are resistant to common lubricants. The bearings are to be basically lubricated for use. Particularly in applications with strong dirt accumulation, the wear resistance can even be higher in the dry operation.

When it is not completely clear which different chemicals can occur or in what concentration, iglidur® X bearings should be used. They possess the best resistance and are affected only by very few concentrated acids. A detailed list of resistance can be found here:Resistance to chemicals

Use in food sector

To meet the special requirements in machines and plants for food production, the iglidur® product range offers 4 specially developed bearing materials. The materials of the iglidur® A180, A200 and A500 bearings comply with the specifications of the US agency, FDA. The material of the iglidur® A290 complies with the specifications of the German federal agency BfR (Federal Institute for Health Protection of Consumers and Veterinary Medicine).

Radiation rich in energy

A comparison of the resistance against radioactive radiation is shown in Table 08. By far iglidur® X, UW500 and Z are the most resistant materials.

UV-resistant

Bearings can be exposed to constant weathering in outdoor applications. The UV-resistance is an important measure that states whether a material is affected by UV radiation. The effects can range from slight color variations to brittleness. A comparison of materials with one another is given in Table 09. The results show that the iglidur® bearings in general are suitable for outdoor application. Alterations, if at all, can be expected only for few iglidur® materials.

Vacuum

iglidur® bearings can be limitedly used in vacuum. An degassing takes place only to a minor degree. The degassing does not alter the material properties of most iglidur® bearings. Generally, materials with low moisture absorption are recommended!

Electrical properties

Both insulated and electrically conductive materials are available in the product range of maintenance-free, self-lubricating iglidur® bearings. The electrical properties are stated in detail in the individual material descriptions. Table 10 compares the surface resistance of "conductive" iglidur® bearings. The iglidur® materials not mentioned here are electrically insulated. Please note that the properties of some of the materials can be altered by the humidity absorption of the materials. Tests should ascertain whether the required properties are adequately stable in changing conditions.
