The Crossing Campus project between igus® and the University of Saarland and the University of Wuppertal emerged as part of the beta tester campaign. They had given their students in the disciplines of polymer materials and mechanical engineering the practical semester project of designing and constructing a drive for the multi-axis robolink®. They were given no guidelines or restrictions in terms of the drive technology, but just the stipulation that the cost of foreign materials should not exceed the sum of € 100. Despite, or perhaps because of that the teams solved the complex task of constructing a control or drive unit for the robolink with simple but technically sophisticated ideas. The result is 6 great drives with different concepts and techniques.
