Exact 25 years ago, in the year 1984, igus® started their own material research. The iglidur® polymer bearing program was born: lubrication- and maintenance-free machine parts with a predictable lifetime which today have replaced a million times metal bushings that would have to be lubricated with grease. In April 2009 igus® has the largest range of tribooptimised polymer plain, spherical and linear bearings in the world. We offer more than 10,000 parts ex stock, in 29 different materials for almost every application. The range contains general purpose bushes, FDA-conforming bearings or even high temperature and under water bearings. The robust iglidur® high performance polymers are tested concerning their durability, friction and wear continuously in over 8,000 tests per year. So, in the past 25 years a unique database about the tribological properties of igus®’ polymers was generated. iglidur®-bearings can not only be used universally, they are economic too as they help to reduce cost. Some users have saved hundreds of thousands of Euros over the years.
