6 hours race at Nürburgring
Date: 19/07/2008As interested igus® Y.E.S. fans may know, we successfully support the FH Cologne motor sport team. I received an invitation from the team to visit them at a race on 19/07. No sooner said than done.
The event was a 6-hour race through the 20-km long North Loop at Nürburgring. Once again the Eifel region splendidly defended its reputation for changing the weather by the seconds. A slight drizzle started at the beginning of the race, which made many teams to change from slicks to wet tires. But this condition didn't last very long and soon the track became entirely dry and many teams had to go in for another pit stop.
Torrential rains started about 2 hours before the end of the race and turned the track into a lake. As many teams were on the course or had missed the entry into the pit lane, they could do nothing but continue on slicks which led to immense aquaplaning and many accidents.
