Experimental setup
In this experimental setup, the free fall of objects is simulated with and without magnetic brake. To receive usable data from this study, the two gondolas need to be guided absolutely reliably and even. Apart from that, a possible high acceleration had to be realized. The two “drop towers” of the experiment have been realized with drylin® T linear guides, vertically screwed on a MDF panel. The combination of iglidur® J plain bearings and the aluminium rail gives the gondolas a low inertia, which allowed to reach an acceleration of 9.80 m/s2 and a maximum speed of 5 m/s.
