This wave generator is basically made of plastic. It operates with several large flaps that take the wave energy and transform them with the help of a turbine into electricity. The moveable flaps are connected with the carrier system via two axes each. The bearing points of the axes are positioned directly under the water surface – exactly at that point, where the wave power is the strongest. This high mechanical load and the corrosive salt water make the use of conventional metal bearings impossible. For this reason the engineers decided to use iglidur® H370 bearings from igus®, especially developed for wet zones.
