Fluid movement
A manta ray was the inspiration for this swimming robot. Development engineers managed to transfer the flowing movements of the ray to the model. This was made possible in part by the polymer plain bearings from igus® used in the swimming robot gearbox. In contrast to metal bearings, the polymer bearings meet all the requirements of this application. They are corrosion-proof, lubricant and maintenance-free and extremely durable.
