Checkmate, thanks to igus® polymer bearings
Winning robot equipped with free igus® products and expertiseThe TU Dresden Robotics Working Group (TURAG) is the German Champion at the robot competition Eurobot 2011 in Ludwigshafen.
The student team from the Elbe was able to assert itself successfully against nine other competitors at the national qualifying round on 28 May with its robot "Scrat". By winning the German championship with a clear victory in the "Chess'up", a chess-like game on a field of 3 x 2.1 meters over a period of 90 seconds, the TURAG qualified for the international competition in Astrakhan, Russia. The World Cup will be played there from 28 June to 3 July.
The YES university support from igus® assisted the junior engineers in Dresden in the construction of the winning robot with free products and expertise. Among these are iglidur® G polymer plain bearings, igubal® rod end bearings, DryLin® T and DryLin® W linear guides and xiros® polymer ball bearings. "We wanted a reliable solution that is free from lubrication and maintenance and runs smoothly and quietly. Thus we could exclude not only a potential source of error, but also save weight and achieve better agility. Thus, igus® made an important contribution to our victory," says Martin Pfanne of TURAG.
"After the winning team "B-Human" of the RoboCup 2010, the TURAG is the second winner of a robot competition we could back successfully," rejoices Nora Heyner from igus® YES®. "We congratulate the TURAG heartily and wish all the best to the team for the competition in Russia. “
