xiros® ball bearings from igus® are used in this planetary gearbox that is used in wind turbines. The use of a sturdy plastic ball bearing with glass balls is necessary because the copper coils used to generate electricity in the turbine generate a magnetic field. The magnetic influences of metal ball bearings would be able to block the gearbox. Plastic ball bearings allow a very compact design to be realised.
