Turning a giant telescope

Large Binocular Telescope

After its completion, this giant telescope in Arizona (USA) will look deep into our universe; the two main mirrors each have diameter of 8,4 metres. To compensate the rotary motion of the telescope, two igus® E-Chains® are integrated: 1. The 380 series from the E4/00 family for the telescope’s rotation about the horizontal axis. 2. A multidimensional flexible Triflex® R, which hangs downward 25 metres and guides the highly sensitive optical cables without any voltage.
