Robotic gripper arm for application in research and training

Christian Bolz constructed a gripper arm for the robot EDUARD at the Berufsakademie (professional academy) in Lörrach, Germany, in the scope of his mechanical engineering studies there.

The main tasks of the gripper arm were simple travel movements, light design, as well as the largest possible operating range. The operating range was achieved by two moving arms which were mounted on a turnable base plate. They were powered by step motors fastened on the housing top of the robot.

The mechanical construction is used in the teachings. The movement of the gripper arm will be controlled by a programming, which is yet to be developed by the students of the academy. "Construction and EDP are increasingly fused together in the future. With the assistance of the robotic-
gripper arm we can present the subject program-
ming to the mechanical engineering students in a practical manner", declares Prof. Heusler who supervised the assignment.
