Mechatronics, which originated in the 60s and 70s in Japan, has made rapid developments since then. Nowadays it combines a multitude of disciplines: Mechanical engineering, information technology and electrical engineering, which find their intersections in modelling, actuator engineering and sensor systems as well as process computer technology. The dimensions are steadily increasing and are being converted into micro, macro and nano technologies.
