The hinge needed to be concealed when closed but the gutter required modifying to mount it. The solution was a combination of slides and multiple pivot points to enable the hinge to fit into the gutter. Currently exposed single pivot butt hinges cannot overcome deck curvature whilst opening. Exposed stainless steel hinges can have slippery faces when the deck is wet and don't blend in with the pattern of the teak deck. The life span of single pivot hinges is 3-4 years. "Using 3D CAD file downloads from the igus® website and reviewing the performance data of the various bearing and slide types to a salt water environment, I selected iglidur® H, DryLin® T and WSQ polymer bearings."
